The KS2 Maths SATs are made up of three papers:
Paper 1 – Arithmetic (30 minutes)
36 marks
Tests basic calculation skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages
Short, straightforward questions
Paper 2 – Reasoning (40 minutes)
35 marks
Focuses on problem-solving, explaining reasoning, and applying concepts
May include multi-step word problems
Paper 3 – Reasoning (40 minutes)
35 marks
Similar to Paper 2 but often slightly harder, testing deeper reasoning and interpretation of problems
Total marks: 110 marks

Converting units (mm, cm, m, km, g, kg, ml, l)
Perimeter, area, and volume of shapes
Reading scales (thermometers, rulers)
Time calculations (hours, minutes, seconds, 24-hour clock)
Properties of shapes (angles, sides, symmetry)
Classifying triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons
Calculating angles, including in triangles and around points
Position and direction (coordinates, translation, reflection)
Reading, interpreting, and drawing bar charts, line graphs, pictograms, and tables
Mean, mode, median, and range
Multi-step word problems
Applying maths in real-life contexts
Explaining methods and answers clearly
Know your times tables — essential for all papers
Practise mental maths for arithmetic questions
Use bar models to visualise reasoning problems
Check units carefully in measurement questions
Always show working in reasoning questions — method marks are awarded
